Spring is in the air and Easter weekend is on its way. A couple of things to keep in mind to keep your Morkie safe and happy over the holiday.
Company coming? Don’t let your Morkie escape
If your Morkie has a lot of Yorkie in him or her, you’ve probably experienced the runaway dog syndrome. Although these little scamps always seem to come right back, there’s still the danger of cars, wild animals and dog snatchers.
So if company is coming over, be sure your Morkie is secure before you open the door (I just carry our dog in my arms).
There can be so much confusion that you don’t even know it’s happened.
Again…. keep chocolate out of reach
You know this already, but chocolate is not only BAD for dogs, it can KILL a small dog like a Morkie. Yes that’s right. As little as 1 ounce of dark Bakers Chocolate, for example, can send a Morkie into toxic shock. So keep all rabbits locked up, high up and out of reach.
Keep dinner out of reach too
Fatty foods like ham or a roast will not only give your Morkie diarrhea, but can also lead to long-term illnesses like pancreatic disorders. Similarly, keep these foods far from your Morkie’s reach:
- Onions, garlic, chives
- Alcohol of any kind
- Macadamia nuts
- Raisins and grapes
If your Morkie does get diarrhea, you can safely use a small amount of Pepto Bismol – about a teaspoon every 6 hours, given by eyedropper is what I use, but do check with your own Vet to be sure.
Happy Easter everyone!
