girl-and-morkie-with-party-hatsIn Q&As I answered a common question: “how long will my Morkie live?”

Although there haven’t been enough generations of Morkies to form a solid history, my opinion is that a Morkie’s average age is 15, and that they can live as long as 17 or 18 years. I based that on the longevity of the parents, the Yorkshire Terrier and the Maltese dog.

That’s pretty close to the top 5 dogs of all breeds, in terms of life expectancy (both hybrids and purebreds are included.)

Wondering which breeds live the longest?

papitese

The Papitese, a cross between a Papillon and a Maltese, has an estimated average life span of 16 to 18 years.

ratese

A mix of Maltese and Rat Terrier, the Ratese can live up to 18 years.

Any dog who’s well cared for, has good quality food, regular exercise and good veterinary care, can live longer. The other factors that make a Morkie a long-living pet:

  • the parents typically live long lives (Yorkie + Maltese)
  • small dogs tend to live longest
  • mixed breed dogs live longer than purebreds
