This weekend – September 11 – 13 – is National Adoption Weekend right across Canada. This event is sponsored by PetSmart, strong supporters of animal adoption. Not only do they feature homeless dogs and cats in their stores, pay for spay and neuter and promote adoption but their PetSmart charities really IS making a difference.
To date, they’ve given $34 million to communities across the U.S. & Canada for pet rescue. Their work has resulted in more than 6 MILLION dogs and cats finding their forever homes — that’s 400,000 every year. Plus PetSmart has funded 8 MILLION spay and neuter operations to date!!
That’s pretty great PetSmart.
Are you thinking of adopting a Morkie?
If you are there are some things to keep in mind:
- a Morkie of course, is half Maltese and half Yorkshire Terrier so it’s important you learn all you can about those two breeds, both their positives and negatives
- since the Morkie is not a recognized breed, you can’t find a true breeder and can fall into the clutches of puppy mill owners or dog scams where there’s not even a dog being “sold”
- Morkies have unique diet and health needs
